We wish you all a Happy Antarctic Midsummer !

Another year is coming to an end. For the SCAR Secretariat in the UK it is the middle of winter, but in Antarctica it is midsummer, which we are celebrating with a sunny image of the month. We’re also looking back at 2021 and remembering all that has been achieved by the SCAR community with our end-of-year infographic.

Definitely worth celebrating is the announcement of the 2021 Antarctic Fellowships. We’re delighted to have awarded five SCAR Fellowships this year and would like to congratulate all successful applicants. Supporting Early Career Researchers is a core element of SCAR’s work, and we’re looking forward to seeing what this year’s Fellows achieve with their projects.

We’re excited to announce the new Antarctic Tourism Action Group (Ant-Tag), which welcomes input from the community. We would also like to warmly welcome Dr. Keith Reid as the new Antarctic Environments Portal Editor. Welcome, Keith !

As the year draws a close, we wish those of you who are in the field a safe and successful season. For those at home and planning a well-earned break, we wish you happy holidays !
